What Has The Paternal Unit Been Up To This Week?

Mama Berry had a full knee replacement on Monday morning. What does this mean? That when I'm 35 years old Mama Berry will still be able to beat me in a foot race! She is one tough cookie. I find it fascinating how advance technology is becoming...maybe by the time I'm 45 years old doctors will be able to replace my whole right side with new parts? That would be cool!
Mama Berry getting worked over by THE Physical Therapist, Judy B. Judy is a miracle worker, in our humble but expert opinions. I've been to my share of PTs and sorry folks but they ALL pale in comparison to Judy! I'm very glad that Mama Berry is in her hands.
Now that is what I call "leg art"!

Mama Berry is recovering now, she's lounging, eating bon bons in her chair, being waited on hand and foot (or at least that is what I'm told so it better be happening), and being entertained by the girls.

Channeling My Creative Talent

Or rather learning how to take directions well...

Meet Francisco, the scarecrow. Bena and I built him tonight. A little lop-sided but fitting since I am as well. :)
And look at the cool munchkin land (no I did not help on this portion, remember my creativity is limited to stuffing pants and spray painting faces).

I Disagree...

I'm sure that Idaho has higher cinema quality than Napoleon Dynamite...even though I do really have an Uncle Rico! ;)

Happy 100th TETONIA!

I grew up in a place commonly referred to as the following: God's country, Zion, the most beautiful place on the planet, The Valley (sorry LA, we are the real "Valley"), population 132 and then in 2000 we became population 247! Who knows what the population sign will read once the census results are published for 2010. Tetonia is small in population but large in character and rich in beauty.

I lived not only in this same town up until I left for college but also on the same plot of property, that's right! We started on one end of the lot for the first 7 years of Dadio and Mama Berry's marriage in this rockin green trailer. Matty and I had these awesome bunk beds, although I never got to sleep on the top (which I'm still disappointed over). We had a wood stove in our living room, where I would hide my vitamins after Mama Berry gave them to me in the mornings (any guesses what color red and purple vitamins melted on wood stove make...closely resembles a black stove). When I was five years old our house was finished in the middle of that same property. I had my own room with pink carpet (what was I thinking??). After Squasher was born I loved to the basement, where my room had no carpet...for years. Sensing a theme on my poor luck of carpet choices here? Moving beyond the carpet issue now; that house is sweet! It also had the most gorgeous view out of the arched windows of The Grand Tetons, until someone thought it was a good idea to build an ugly barn in front of us...a story for another time! Growing up in a small town is an experience that if you embrace it you'll love!

Reasons why Tetonia is still home in this little heart of mine

1. Obviously God's country should be home to us all
2. My family lives in Tetonia (again an obvious reason)
3. We didn't have any STOP signs in our town until I was sixteen (therefore I use this as justification for my lack of adhering to these STOP signs having not learned to drive with STOP signs)
4. Growing up across the street from the grandparents has the best perks (i.e. constant spoiling, a second home to hide to avoid chores, sweets in every shape and form, and your own couch to lay on)
5. The shortcut through the alley between my house and Classic Stop
6. Having the Post Office within walking distance (and by walking distance I mean across the street)
7. Having the church house within walking distance (and by walking distance I mean across the street again)
8. Having the elementary school within walking distance (and by walking distance I mean across the street again)
9. The park was a block in the other direction and felt like it belonged to you, not the town, not the neighbor girl, not the person that mows it, but you
Dadio with the girls! MoCo is sure happy for the parade!
Squasher the Exxon Tiger
Now that she has candy she's much happier!
And the wannabe beauty queen, Averina! (she'll grow out of this phase I'm sure)
Above mentioned park!

Happy 100 years HOME!

Top 10 Things That Determine Happiness

Askmen.com (click the link for the full post) talks of the Top 10 things that they believe determine happiness. All are pretty good things. I do however really love what they have as their #1!

No.1 – Liking yourself

Liking oneself is arguably the principal characteristic of happy people. It’s been revealed in study after study after study: happy people like themselves. They think they’re pretty great people. They have high self-esteem, meaning they think highly of their own intelligence, they consider themselves to have strong ethical standards and to have far fewer prejudices than others.

Amen to this, I think this is HUGE! Hopefully soon (if I can take the time to write it among all the post season baseball watching) you'll see my take on liking one's self.

Happy Birthday To The Original!

We've discussed previously on this blog that if you would like to see what I'll look like after a few years of wisdom that you should look no further than my Grandma. Call me Coleen Junior folks (some people already do so feel free to join the club). It is her Birthday today! As part of her birthday treat after a delicious lunch a Chiz's they drove to "The Valley" for a shake at Corner Drug with Dadio and Mama Berry.

My Stanford Soph Is Now A Stanford Senior!

JP is kind of a big deal! She spoke at Convocation tonight. She did wonderfully, delivering her address with finesse, spunk, and that engineering humor. She was beautiful, radiant in fact.
We also learned that hairspray is a modern miracle! ;)

And Jack Berry Thought He Raised A Democrat...

(Dadio himself emailed me this photo this morning)

After 28 years of marriage Dadio gave into the in-laws and is bleeding red it seems (case in point the tie and photo)

***True Story***
When Dadio was still just Ronnie Berry, dating Michelle Erickson (you know her as Mama Berry), he decided that he was in love. Obviously the next step was to "meet the parents". The four went out to lunch one day. Poncho Villa (the father of Mama Berry) asked Dadio just one question.
Poncho Villa: Are you a democrat or republican?
Dadio: (not too politically savvy at the age of 22) Well my Dad is a democrat, so...
Poncho Villa: Oh Hell

Somehow my Dadio sweet talked his way into that family even after that lunch and with a mother-in-law that embodies "Republican Woman of the Year" year in and year out it is no surprise he was so easily swayed...hehe
